and crafts, along with decorations, are the best way to have fun
and enjoy one another. You will fall in love with these crafts,
and they will liven up your celebration of the birth of Jesus.

CHRISTMAS CASTLE

You can almost imagine Santa and his elves residing in
this fairyland castle. It's magically easy to make--no baking needed!

2 containers (16 ounces each) vanilla frosting
1 ice cream sugar cone

Decorations:
Nonpareils, candy canes, chocolate-covered wafer cookies, red cinnamon candies, red and green gumdrops, miniature butter cookies, miniature fudge-striped cookies, candy fruit slices and other assorted cookies and candies.

Supplies:

1 empty 1/2-gallon milk or juice carton, rinsed and dried
1 empty 1-quart milk or juice carton, rinsed and cleaned
1 empty 1/2-pint cream carton, rinsed and dried
1 (13×11-inch) cake board, covered, or large tray

Fold down pointed ends of milk cartons to make flat surface; tape securely. Tape cream carton closed at top; tape to top of 1-quart carton. Cover with foil. Tape securely to cake board.

Spread castle with frosting. Place ice cream cone on top of 1/2 gallon carton; frost. Decorate with cookies and candies.

Note:
Surround castle with shredded coconut to look like freshly fallen snow.





A CRIB FOR JESUS


The things you need:

1. Sticks or branches from trees
2. Leaves, twigs and hay
3. Thermacol sheet
4. Adhesive and scissors
5. Thread or Wool
6. Statues of baby Jesus or the Virgin Mary with child, etc..

Step 1: You need to take a 1 inch thick sheet of thermacol. Take four sticks and fix them on the corner of the thermacol sheet. Put some adhesive around each of the sticks to ensure that they are firm on the thermacol.

Step 2: With the help of thread make the framework for the roof as shown in the figure. Cover the roof with leaves, twigs and hay.

Step 3: Spread a layer of the adhesive on the sheet and cover it with leaves, hay and mud. Keep the statue of baby Jesus in it while placing others around him.

You can devise other innovative ways to make a crib in your house. Materials like wood, cotton, straw, cardboard etc. can be used. There is no limit but how you will do it, we will leave it to your imagination.





BABY JESUS HAYSTACKS

Make haystacks to represent baby Jesus lying in the hay in the manger.

This is really easy. No oven involved, just the microwave.

1 package choc chips
½ cup peanut butter
4 cups chow mein noodles
mini marshmallows

Melt choc chips and peanut butter together for 1 min in microwave, stir and microwave for additional 1 ½ min until melted. Add chow mein noodles and stir with 2 spoons/forks as tossing a salad.

Drop onto waxed paper. Add a marshmallow to represent baby Jesus.





AWAY IN A MANGER

You will need:

Paper plate wet wipes glue pretzel sticks Spanish moss Circus peanuts

Directions:
Take two pretzel sticks and glue them to the paper plate to make an "X"for the legs of the manger. Glue Spanish moss above the pretzel sticks to represent the hay. Glue a Circus peanut so that it lays on the hay to represent the baby Jesus lying in the manger.

CLAY NATIVITY


The Clay Nativity is a simple and easy-to-make craft for a broad age range.

You will need: 3 mini clay pots (2"), 3 large wooden beads, straw or moss, a gold ring of ribbon, strips of fabric, and tacky glue.

Turn two pots upside down and glue a bead on top of each one, (representing Mary and Joseph). Place one of the fabric strips over Mary's head, the other around Joseph's shoulders. Place straw into the third pot, (represents the manger). Place the third bead (represents Jesus' head) into the straw, then place the gold ribbon around the head of Jesus like a crown.





FLUFFY LAMB ORNAMENT


What You Need
White fake sherpa (lamb's wool)
4 Matchsticks
Black felt
1/8" wide Red ribbon
Black yarn
Small gold bell
Gold cording
Scissors
Tacky glue

1. Have an adult light all 4 matches and blow them out. Let them cool in a safe place.
2. Cut the sherpa into 2 ovals about 3 x 2 1/2".
3. Cut 1 triangle out of black felt for the face. Round the end that will be sticking out.
4. Cut 2 small ears out of black felt.
5. Cut a piece of black yarn about 1 1/2" long.
6. Cut a piece of gold cording about 6" long.
7. Take one piece of sherpa and put right side down.
8. Lay the matchsticks, gold cording, triangular face, and the piece of yarn on the sherpa as per photo.
9. Glue down using tacky glue.
10. Glue the wrong side of the other piece of sherpa and place down on the inside of the other piece (with all the legs, cording, tail placed on top).
11. Press together.
12. Unravel yarn to make the tail look bushy.
13. Glue an ear on each side of the lamb.
14. Thread the bell onto the red ribbon.
15. Tie a small bow with the ribbon.
16. Glue the ribbon and bell below the lamb's face. (see photo)
17. Hang on the tree and enjoy!





SCRIPTURE SHEEP


Templates

Print out one of the following templates on to stiff card

Scripture Sheep - for stand-up sheep.
Sheep Cards - to play memory.

Paper Accordion Sheep

1. Cut out scripture sheep. Write memory verse on front and back if desired.
2. Cut two strips of paper 2 cm wide and 20 cm long.
3. Glue ends together to form and "L" shape.
4. Fold each piece over the top of the other to create a mini accordion. Glue together the ends.
5. Glue each end of accordion piece to front and back of sheep.
Marshmallow Sheep

1. Cut out scripture sheep. Write memory verse on front and back if desired.
2. Place a small amount of icing to the back of each part. Use this to attach a marshmallow (try using giant marshmallows!) between the two parts of the sheep.

Other Suggestions

1. If making a flock of sheep make a small sheep pen basket to carry them. Cut the top half off a small milk carton. Cut Popsicle craft sticks in half and attach to outside. Make a handle using a length of cardboard.

2. Kindergarten Memory Verse Template - (Matthew 25:40) accompanies this craft idea. You may like to encourage children to make a number of these and give them away to strengthen the message of the verse.

Scripture Sheep Memory

1. Print out a number of copies of the template or alternatively, paste the template into a program such as Publisher. Print or write the first half of memory verses on sheep front card and the second half and/or the reference on the sheep back card.
2. Cut out and play memory with the cards.

WONDERLAND HOUSE


Turn a simple shoe box a wonderland !

Select a fresh shoe box, and cut a rectangle shape in the lid of the shoe box.
On inside of lid, tape a piece of white tissue paper (this allows light to filter through).
On side of shoe box cut another rectangle shape (this allows you to peer through box).
On inside of box, glue white or navy blue construction paper to the sides of the box.
Glue fiber fill to the bottom of box.
Streak glue on fiberfill and shake sparkles on it. This is the snow.
Cut out old Christmas cards and position pictures like a winter scene in the shoe box. Wrap the outside of the box with pretty Christmas paper.

CANDY WREATH


You will need:

Green poster board
Red yarn
Yellow poster board
Double sided tape
Glue
Assorted colored paper
Scissors
Small sprigs of spruce
2 different size plates
Yarn needle
Wide red ribbon
13 Individually wrapped candies
1 Medium cup
1 Large cup

Directions:
Take the green poster board and draw two different size circles using the plates to trace the circle. Cut the circles out and glue the spruce sprigs onto one side of the ring, to completely cover it.

Take the yellow poster board and draw twelve small circles and one large circle using the two different size cups as a guideline. With the scrape paper draw and cut out twelve stars. Then place one star on each circle and place one piece of candy on each star and glue to the large spruce covered ring.

Using the yarn needle make a hole in each yellow card circle. Thread the yarn through each hole and tie in a pretty bow. Make a hole at the top of the green circle and pull a piece of red yarn through the top hole to make a hanger.





FAIRY TREE TOP


You will need:

1 piece cardboard your choice color
1 Silver poster board
4 Popsicle sticks
Various colored papers
Assorted tiny beads or buttons
Star stickers
Yellow, brown tissue paper torn in stripes
Felt various colors
tiny stick
Dinner plate
Gold thread
Embroidery floss
Embroidery needle
Scotch tape
Scissors
Glue

Directions:
Cut a semicircle from the cardboard with scissors. Make the semicircle into a cone and tape to hold. Cut the top off the cone. Take the two Popsicle sticks and make into arms for fairy, then take tissue paper and fold and place over the Popsicle sticks to make sleeves, leaving the ends sticking out to make hands. Glue the Popsicle sticks onto the back of the cone making the arms.

Take the silver poster board and fold in half and trace wings and then cut out. You should have a pair of wings joined in the middle. Decorate the wings with sequins or buttons and glue to the back of the cone.

Cut a head and neck from the poster board. Draw a nose and mouth. Glue on beads or buttons to make eyes and tissue paper for the hair. To make a halo bead sequins or buttons together and wrap around head. Glue to hold in place. Then glue the neck inside the cone.

Then decorate two of the Popsicle sticks for the legs and glue each leg inside the bottom of the cone. Then decorate the dress with stars and beads or buttons.





GUMDROP TREES


You will need a 6-8" tall Styrofoam tree, a couple bags of red and green gumdrops, some u-shaped hair pins, toothpicks, and a miniature string of beads.

Cut toothpicks in half. Insert a toothpick into the larger (bottom) side of the gumdrops. Starting at the bottom, stick the free end of the toothpick (with gumdrops already on) into the tree. Continue until the tree is covered. (Alternate method: glue gumdrops onto tree form.) Attach the beaded string in a "loose" fashion, fastening it to the styrofoam with the hair pins. Finally, hot glue a miniature star or angel to the top.





SNOWMAN CAN


Take an empty coffee can (with lid on)and cover with white construction paper or white fabric.
Glue on black buttons for eyes and mouth, and orange felt for nose.
Top with a small child's knit cap or old fabric remnants and tie off the top.
Add blush to cheeks.





CHRISTMAS BROOCHES


1 c flour
1 c warm water
1/4 c salt
2 ts cream of tartar
1 ts oil
Food coloring of your choosing

Mix together the flour, water, salt, cream of tartar, oil, and food coloring.

Stir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth. Place in plastic bag or airtight container when cooled. Will last for a long time. To make brooch(es), use cookie cutters that are Christmas-shapes (stars, snowmen, etc.)

Before totally dry, press pins into backs of brooches (buy the pins at a craft store). When they are totally dry, paint them with your favorite Christmas colors.
